About the workshops

Tile and Map workshops.

In January 2026, Francis house, local schools and businesses, partnered with GRIT studios to deliver 10 works shops in various location.

The tile work shops were led by ceramic artists Alison Waters and Sarah Pink from GRIT studios. Illustrator John Cooper worked with young people to create the official trail map, which guides visitors along the route.

During the workshops, each participant created their own unique tile or illustration .

Each tile has a personal story to tell and reflects the creativity of its maker.

By bringing people together through these workshops, people developed a stronger sense of belonging, while helping to build connections and strengthen the local community.

Throughout the sessions Alison, Sarah and John supported participants in designing and creating colourful meaningful works of art.

Installation of the tiles in the community.

Community group Heatons Men in Sheds have played a key role in bringing the project to life, supporting the installation process and working in all weathers to ensure the tiles were safely installed across the trail.

Heatons men in sheds have supported Francis house with various projects, brining their handyman expertise to the houses and working along side the young people to make them feel a part of a community and project.
